On November 30th, Greyhound RFC's social rugby team travelled to Harborne for a spirited encounter against a well-organised and highly disciplined Moseley Oak side. The game saw six Greyhound players join forces with a mix of others, creating a fun and competitive match that was full of moments of brilliance and good-natured rugby.
Team and Positions:
Josh played at scrum-half (9)
Spencer took on the fly-half (10) role
Matt played prop but unfortunately had to leave the field due to an ankle injury
Jim and Craig played in the forwards
Joel was in an unusually "angry" mood throughout the game, which was later revealed to be due to losing his phone. His frustration seemed to fuel his game, with him seemingly demanding the ball back after every tackle, although it turned out he had simply dropped it on his way to the toilet!
Despite Greyhound’s limited numbers and some early misfortune, the team gave a strong account of themselves. The first half saw Moseley Oak dominate with their impressive organisation and drilling, controlling possession and territory. However, Greyhound fought back in the second half, equalling the opposition’s intensity and determination.
Highlights of the Match:
Spencer continued to impress, breaking through the Moseley defence on several occasions with dazzling runs and showing why he is a standout player for Greyhound. His pace and agility kept the opposition on their toes.
Despite his earlier frustration, Joel found his focus on the field and played a key role in the forwards, channelling his energy into every tackle.
Josh at scrum-half was quick and efficient in linking up play, while Matt, although forced off with an ankle injury, showed his grit in the scrum.
The game, although hard-fought, ended early due to the injury to Matt, but it was a highly enjoyable match for everyone involved. The strong team spirit shown by all players was evident, and despite the loss, Greyhound players earned praise for their resilience and camaraderie.
Final Thoughts: It was a fantastic game in the truest spirit of social rugby. Despite being up against a well-drilled Moseley Oak team, Greyhound showed grit, determination, and moments of individual brilliance. The second half especially was much more evenly matched, and the players should be proud of their performance.
A big thank you to all involved—players, spectators, and organisers—for making the day such a memorable one. We look forward to the next match, where Greyhound will continue to build on their spirit and team chemistry.
