Greyhound RFC Men's Social Rugby vs. Moseley Oak & Stourbridge
On October 26th, Greyhound RFC hosted a fantastic day of social rugby on home ground, putting out a full team with reserves for an eagerly anticipated match. The Greyhound squad was filled with new faces, many of whom had never played for the club before and were warmly introduced by Head Coach Darren Turner. Their opponents included players from Moseley Oak and a few from Stourbridge, blending a seasoned group of experienced rugby "old heads" against Greyhound’s energetic, youthful lineup.
The game started with a slight delay due to the late arrival of the appointed referee, but Greyhound’s own Oliver Paton gamely stepped in for the first 10 minutes to ensure the match got underway. Once underway, the game proved to be evenly matched, with Greyhound’s enthusiasm and raw talent squaring off against the opposition’s experience in a truly competitive spirit.
The highlight of the day came courtesy of Greyhound’s No. 10, Spencer, who produced an outstanding solo try, darting through the opposition from Greyhound’s own 22-meter line and jinking his way to the try line like the legendary Barry John. Spencer’s brilliance brought spectators to their feet, showcasing the skill and flair that make rugby such a thrilling sport.
Both sides fought hard, trading tries to leave the final score at a fitting 12-12. More than just a draw, the game exemplified the best traditions of rugby, with smiles on every face as players, spectators, and club members celebrated a well-fought, friendly contest.
Quotes from the Day:
